In this episode we deep dive into a quote from the not-just-for-kids book Noticing by Kobi Yamada, illustrated by Elise Hurst.
“You are the rare and unique combination of what was and the bright possibility of what can be. And you know what? So is everyone else
Everyone shines and needs to be seen. Everyone wants to know the they matter, that there is a place for them and that they are needed. Sure, some may hide their brilliance, but the light is in there, always flickering, and it is a beautiful thing when we reflect it to them.”
Noticers help us become who we were always meant to be. They help us see the parts of ourselves that we are unable to see. But so often we are too shy or too unaware to be noticers to others.
How many lights are allowed to flicker out because people don’t feel seen?
Things we chat about in this episode:
How to help others see their light (and why the world needs more of us to do just that).
How we need to have patience with people because it can take a long time to see the inner light.
The importance of childlike play in our lives.
Why we should all thank the noticers in our lives.
Cool things we reference:
📕 Stories about finding your light: Harry Potter - J.K. Rowling, Lord of the Rings Trilogy - J.R.R. Tolkien; Star Wars
🎥 Marina Abramovic: The Artist is Present
Actions this quote inspires us to take:
Katherine: To make more of an effort to help people see their light by listening deeply and really seeing them - and by encouraging their creative acts. And saying thank you to someone who has helped me feel seen.
Manon: Having the courage to tell someone they helped me feel seen and be really explicit - how they helped and why it was so important to me.
Thank you so much for listening today! We really appreciate you being here. In our next episode we are deep diving into the book Medicine Wheel for the Planet by Dr. Jennifer Grenz. Until then we hope you stay well and have many moments to Slow Read.
Your Friends,
Katherine and Manon
