I agree. So much in this chapter to think about. Capitalism without a strong regulatory framework just doesn’t work. We are living the results. Robin Wall Kimmerer shows us another way. A paradigm shift for western culture, a way of being for indigenous culture and spirituality. We have much to learn. I so hope our culture starts to really listen to indigenous ways of knowing and that we can walk cooperatively together in this final stage of the 7 Fires Prophecy.
I love the playfulness throughout the book and the humour which comes through even when talking about heavy subjects. It strikes me that the way of abundance is a nonviolent way of being. Ours is extractive and violent.
I love her statement on p. 106..” I’ve long believed that the ones who have more joy win. Maybe this levels the power differential between us and Darren. We have joy and justice on our side. And berries.”
This book motivated me to plant a serviceberry tree in our front yard where our neighbours and especially the children can play and enjoy💕

Thank you for such a thoughtful reflection Anne! We also would love to see a world where the gift economy is the norm not the exception.
So wonderful you planted a Serviceberry! We wish you many years of abundant harvests!
