Welcome to our last book talk on Wolfpack by Abby Wambach.
Abby begins this chapter with an anecdote about starting a running regimen and absolutely hating it. Not because she hates running (she was a world class athlete, after all), but because she was running alone. As she says, “Life is not meant to be lived as a lone wolf. We all need a pack.”
Old Rule: You’re on your own.
New Rule: You’re not alone. You’ve got your pack.
This chapter was inspired by the commencement speech Abby gave at Barnard College. You can listen to it here.
In this Book Talk we ponder:
How much it means to us to be part of a pack.
Are we really ever alone?
The importance of finding balance in our social lives.
How we need people in our lives to be our whole selves - while at the same time realizing that we can never be whole if we neglect to be friends with ourselves.
How long is too long when deciding to reconnect with old friends (Is “it’s been too long” even a thing?)
Cool things we reference in this episode:
📕 Finding the Mother Tree - Suzanne Simard
